I haven't seen Alias or Fringe beyond the pilot, so that is pretty interesting to know. Although I'm not sure JJ Abrams had as much to do with the plotting of Lost's later seasons. But I take your point.

And certainly I have no problem with ideas being repeated. Obviously all story ideas come from other stories we've seen. I thought it was worth pointing out though because the similarities to both Buffy and Angel were standing out. And particularly because Angel was given it's final season in a similar manner to the way Dollhouse was. So it felt like he was reaching for a similar concept to help him wrap the story up.

It's certainly not a big deal and I didn't mark the show down for being derivative.

Posted to: The Attic Show Thread | Post Reply

I understand the similarities between the Angel and DeWitt twists. Although, I'm not sure if that's necessarily a bad thing. Very few shows have plots that are original anymore. I can't blame Joss for reusing SOME ideas. Unlike JJ Abrams.

JJ Abrams and his three shows: LOST, Fringe, and Alias. In all three shows there are the following similarities:

Main Characters as kids: LOST- All the passengers were visited as kids by Jacob, therefore being destined to be passengers on the same flight. Fringe - Olivia and other kids were experminted on as kids to be superweapons and fight the upcoming war between the two parallel worlds. Alias - Sidney Bristow and other agents were programmed and trained as kids to grow up and be super agents.

Doppelgangers: LOST - John Lock as the evil Jacob. Fringe - Olivia's friend, Agent Francis, has an evil clone. Alias- Sidney's best friend also has an evil clone.

Parallel Universes/Realties: All three shows deal with different and/or parallel realities.

See? Yet LOST still remains one of the best shows on air even though it borrows a lot of its plot devices from Abrams' previous show Alias.

Posted to: The Attic Show Thread | Post Reply

I loved the episode. It was like part The Matrix, part Twin Peaks (think Black Lodge in the series finale), and part Dollhouse. Some really great stuff going on.

Posted to: The Attic Show Thread | Post Reply

I will get round to the reviewing ASAP. In that moment when Boyd said it I wondered if they had taken his ability to kill. It just seemed the logical answer if they were so unconcerned about him walking off with a gun. But that wouldn't be a very interesting mystery so now I don't know.

I know Topher can dig around inside the brain for various things but to remove an actual desire or emotion would seem somewhat difficult to buy. If they have erased some of Paul's memory, I would find it more believable and a lot more tragic.

Posted to: The Attic Show Thread | Post Reply

What an amazing episode. I was wondering if anyone has any theory as to what Topher removed from Ballard in order for the doll architecture to work on him and bring him back alive? Could it be his love for Echo? Or maybe his desire to bring down the Dollhouse? I don't think it's the latter since everyone is now working together to bring down the dollhouse, including DeWitt.

Which brings me to the twist at the end with DeWitt. I thought they did an amazing job with that. They took the time to develop her new mean persona and it made the twist all that more effective but still believable.

Posted to: The Attic Show Thread | Post Reply

Hey everyone,

On the Dollhouse page in the forum I have posted some pictures of your TV Critic dressed as Victor from Dollhouse for Halloween. You have the full spectrum of emotions there including me trying to look sad as Victor did at the moment that (spoiler alert) Alpha cuts his face up.

R

Posted to: Hallowhedon (with pictures!) Show Thread | Post Reply

I agree about Belonging. Robin and I are just getting ready to record the podcast, so I won't say much. But I will say, unless he manages to talk me out of it, I think Belonging is the shows best episode. Too bad it took a season and a half for them to get there.

Posted to: Epitaph One! Show Thread | Post Reply

Wow! I've got to say...Watching Epitaph One really puts everything into perspective quite a bit more! I can't believe there are people out there like me who have moved on to Season 2 without having seen Epitaph One! For shame that it was only on the DvD cause it really is something special for this show.

Now my disdain for Echo's constant glitching is cleared as it makes sense. For so long I felt they were having her glitch without it going anywhere, but now I see the end game as far as her keeping imprints and memories.

I'll start a new thread for this, but it's amazing just how much Episode 4 : Belonging has stepped forward towards the future seen in Epitaph One. EpOne and Belonging are now two of my favorite episodes in the series' history!

Posted to: Epitaph One! Show Thread | Post Reply

Ah, Brando! Shame on you! Go rent the episode right now! It puts the whole show in a different light, in my opinion.

I do wonder, though, if the plan is to ever make it to that point in the regular show. It seems to me like the show could easily end without ever touching on the post-apocolyptic world again. Which is a shame. I'm a big Felicia Day fan and it's always a joy to see her get mainstream work.

Posted to: Epitaph One! Show Thread | Post Reply

their original plan was to show scenes with Mac (Felicia Day) during the season 2 premiere. They ended up cutting the scenes. I have no idea why Joss chose this route. Maybe he's saving it for later? Who knows. It would've been nice if he had left the scenes in. Maybe he has his reasons for leaving them out, but hopefully we get to visit that future once more before the end of season 2.

Posted to: Epitaph One! Show Thread | Post Reply

Hey man,

Thanks for posting again.

I am really sorry about the Dollhouse podcast. Cordia and I have been aware of the sound issue from the start. This season she has a new Skype head set and I haven't - hence the change in sound. I now have one but it won't work properly!

It's all a bit of a mess because my other job is taking so much of my time that I just haven't had time to work on the podcast or much else around the site. It's a real pain and I'm sorry to everyone who has had to listen to poor sound quality.

It is on my to do list and I will solve it eventually. Thanks for bringing it up and for listening. I hope you can bear with us in the meantime.

Robin

Posted to: Issue with sound on Dollhouse podcast? Show Thread | Post Reply

Hi Robin,
Just wanted you to know I had a really hard time hearing your end of the conversation in the last two dollhouse podcasts. If I downloaded from itunes I could barely hear you - when I tried to simply play from the feed it was better. I hear Claudia fine either way. I don't know if you've changed what you've done from last season - but just wanted to let you know in case other people were having the same problem.

Posted to: Issue with sound on Dollhouse podcast? Show Thread | Post Reply

Yeah I agree with that a lot. The intensity was there, the characters were there. It had everything which season 1 was lacking.

I think it's pretty tough to watch Season 2 now that I assume I know where it is all headed. And on top of that I'm not sure it will get past a second season. So Epitaph Two will probably have to wrap the entire story up.

Posted to: Epitaph One! Show Thread | Post Reply

So after watching the supposed completed season one I was still debating whether or not to continue watching.. that was until I saw the 13th episode "Epitaph One" which was completly amazing. It's such a shame that they haven't followed on from it yet.. I think I heard mentioned that Joss plans to do one as a finale for every season hence the use of epitaph as the title.

It really bugs me though that we can't delve into that world from the get go. A futuristic. apocalyptic type world that has been overrun by dolls is defintely a show I would watch. The regular show I'm very iffy about.

Posted to: Epitaph One! Show Thread | Post Reply
