(***Spoilers DO NOT READ if you are not up to S4E11***)
There has been talk on the Walking Dead Wikipedia about whether or not Luke and Molly are dead and if the black shoe that triggered Beth's crying was one of theirs.
BTW: If you go to Robin reads the walking dead, I will be putting content there as well that compares the TV show with the comic book: http://www.thetvcritic.org/blog/robin-reads-the-walking-dead/
I believe they are dead, however I personally think the shoe is someone elses.
I would suggest re watching Season Four, Episodes 8 and 10.
Molly and Mika were the ones holding Judith (Luke had the formula bag that Lizzie was using in episode 10.)
There are no signs of their bodies next to Judith's bloody baby carrier when Carl and Rick find it.
Tyreese then has Judith. Lizzie holds the bag that Luke was carrying with the baby formula. Tyreese didn't seem to know
anyone in the group that he tried to save or who lay dead on the railroad tracks.
One can deduce the following scenarios:
1. Molly and Luke fought off zombies and died within the prison walls and the blood on the carrier is theirs and then Tyreese arrived a little too late to save them but was able to save Judith.
2. Molly and Luke fled and met their end outside the prison walls; leaving Judith and Tyreese found and saved Judith.
I opt for #1.
In #2 they would have to meet total strangers on the railroad tracks by the prison and then perish in a zombie attack or they were there first or right before the strangers got there and were attacked by zombies. The strangers may have happened on their remains being eaten by zombies a little later.
I have issues with this scenario because why would a group of survivors walk towards feeding zombies?
Also that would entail Molly and Luke escaping all the zombies that were swarming the prison to only have their lives abruptly ended by a few zombies near the railroad tracks. Doesn't make too much sense.
Luke's shoes are close in appearance to the shoe that was found but a lot of characters have these comfortable hiking style shoe boots: http://walkingdead.wikia.com/wiki/Talk:Molly_%28TV_Series%29?file=Ah7j.jpg#Death.3F
Do you think Molly and Luke are still alive or dead? If they died, where do you think they met their demise?
Tyreese has to know what happened to them since they were holding Judith right before he was and I cannot imagine Judith being able to survive if she was alone for a second in a prison being overrun by hordes of zombies.
In Season 4, Episode 10 I believe the writers were trying to give us (the audience) an inside into what really happened with this shoe without letting the characters know what's going on to create irony.
In the case of the shoe, the irony was supposed to be Beth crying over Mika's demise while we all know she is alive because she is with Tyreese. In order for this to have worked properly (where we know Beth is thinking specifically about Mika) we would have also have to know what happened to Luke and Molly or have Beth cry out her name.
Since we don’t, as Robin has indicated we really don’t have a sense of exactly who or what Beth is mourning for so there really isn't irony generated when there should have been (for me at least that's how it felt.)
Any thoughts about this?
