Episode 7 - Husbands and Knives
4 January 2009
Review
Synopsis: A new comic book store puts the Androids Dungeon out of business. Marge then rents the space to open a gym for women. The gym is so successful that Homer starts to believe she will leave him for a more attractive man. The Good: Marge’s success is intriguing as is Homer’s insecurity. At least they are intriguing until you realise that they aren’t going anywhere. The Bad: We spend almost half the episode in the new comic book store and then that story is completely disregarded. Does comic book guy get his store back? Does Marge’s business fail? The whole formula of the show is based on everything going back to normal and here they don’t even bother to finish the story. The comedy reeks of the writers wishing they had the freedom that the writers of Family Guy enjoy. We get mocking of Oprah, a pointless clip of Tin Tin, a parody of an OKGo music video and guest stars with super powers for no good reason. None of these are particularly funny and it seems the show has lost interest in trying to make its regular characters work well within their own universe. Best Joke: The plastic surgeon offering to un-staple Homer’s stomach with an office staple remover. The Bottom Line: A really terrible episode. The most tired formula of all – Marge and Homer marriage problems. The episode wastes time on one plot with no conclusion then meanders through another with no conclusion to that either. A complete waste of time.
