Lost - The New Man In Charge

If you haven't seen the epilogue to Lost yet I suggest you go find it now. The extra ten minutes doesn't tell us anything we couldn't have guessed but is pleasant enough and perfectly welcome.

In case you missed anything the "answers" which were provided were:

- Why and how the food pallet drops continued.

- The origins of the "Hurley bird."

- Why Pierre Change had to keep using fake names.

- What Room 23 was created for.

- A potential explanation for the fertility problems on the island.

- A little more detail on the polar bears.

The epilogue also provided a happier ending for Walt which was nice. These answers are nice to hear but none of them change my perception of Lost. The show remains both great and disappointing in my mind.

Watching the epilogue once more hooked me and made me stare at the screen intently. Lost always had that power over me and that's what made it so great. Having spent hours raking over why the show didn't fulfill its promise I have no desire to think about that again right now.

Check out the epilogue and say goodbye once more.

  • Going back through the series with Audio commentaries and special features adds a nice depth. I didn't previously purchase the DVD's so it's all a nice surprise. Especially in the first seasons before I found websites like this one to enjoy discussing the show.

As you suggest it is bittersweet. So fun to see sweet moments I'd forgotten yet I am also less invested in the stories that were unsatisfactorily resolved.

  • Loved listening to all your podcasts.

I feel the same as you. It was enjoyable to watch "New man in charge", but didn't really add to my overall feelings for Lost finale and series overall.

Having rewatched the series this week, I must admit that I loved it even more and my appreciation for all the work that went into the series has grown. The DVD set has a number of excellent bonus features, particularly the audio commentaries (LA X, Dr. Linus, Ab Aeterno, Across the Sea) were helpful in understanding things from the creator's perpective (vs fan perspective).

Maybe I'm just feeling the love all over again getting ready for the Emmy's too.
