Episode 6 - Pranks and Greens

26 November 2009

Review

Synopsis: Bart discovers that there was once a greater prankster than him at Springfield Elementary. When he meets Andy Hamilton he is worried to see what a loser he has become. He helps him get a job on the Krusty show. Meanwhile Marge struggles to keep up with all the new health food fads which her fellow mothers have discovered.

The Good: The Andy Hamilton story is an interesting one. The whole mystery of who he is and what prank could have knocked all the fun out of Skinner was intriguing. I liked Lisa shoving Bart’s head toward the computer screen when he asked her to zoom and enhance a picture. Bart recognises what he might become if he remains addicted to pranks like Andy which was a pleasant story.

The Bad: But the story was, as ever, the wrong one. The story ended with Andy learning the lesson that it is better to grow up than stay a prankster forever. But who cares about Andy? Shouldn’t Bart be learning that lesson? He seems to just know it too quickly and so the story becomes predictable and uninteresting.

As for the baby health food story, it was about as forgettable as Simpsons B plots have ever been. The satire is as obvious and exaggerated as possible. Yes some mother’s are overly health conscious and organic food can be pricey and difficult to get hold of. Yawn.

Best Joke: Lisa explains that one of the reasons not to use plastic bags is that they end up at the bottom of the ocean. Once there they can affect the mating habits of jellyfish. Irritated by this Homer mutters “Stupid horny jellyfish.”

The Bottom Line: Forgettable.
