Episode 19 - The Splendid Source

17 May 2010

Synopsis: Peter hears a dirty joke which makes him soil himself. He wonders whether there is a source for all dirty jokes. He takes Joe and Quagmire on a quest to find out, picking up Cleveland on the way. They end up on a secret island where the world's most intelligent men write dirty jokes.

The Good: There was vague intrigue about what the guys might find to be the source of all dirty jokes. Though experience really should tell you that there wasn't going to be anything interesting behind it. I did like Peter's jab at network promos giving away big reveals from episodes.

Flashback ratio (good-medium-bad): 0-1-0

The Bad: This was just a dull and pointless episode. There were very few jokes as the quest unfolded and the secret island was as bland an idea as you could come up with. Cleveland didn't really get many fun lines and the quest didn't lead to any fun scenes along the way.

Peter pooping himself isn't particularly fun to think about nor is insulting Hispanic women just for the sake of it. Peter mistaking his reflection for another man is too dumb to even bother writing.

Best Joke: As the guys drive to D.C. some men in suits drive up behind them and shoot at them. Joe shoots back and manages to take out one of their tyres. Peter suggests that they are being followed to which Joe replies (in mock dramatic fashion) "Either that or they've got a grudge against our back windshield." Quagmire amusingly says "Oh Joe that's so dumb."

The Bottom Line: Literally a waste of time.
