Episode 6 - TOW The Dirty Girl
29 March 2012
Synopsis: Ross dates a beautiful woman with a horrendously messy apartment. Phoebe helps Monica on a catering job and they decide to work together. Meanwhile it’s Kathy’s birthday and Joey doesn’t care whereas Chandler buys her an expensive and thoughtful gift.
The Good: There is plenty of humour to enjoy throughout this show. Ross carries the comedy here as he reacts to the unsanitary living conditions. Monica and Phoebe are a nice double act at the funeral and Joey has a few nice moments of comedy.
The Bad: The idea that a clever beautiful woman would have such a disgusting appartment is stupid. It has no basis in reality even if it is funny. The writers have to balance Joey and Chandler here. They have to make both of them likeable even though Chandler is trying it on with his best friends girlfriend and Joey is “not worthy” of her. Although the balance is ok here both characters have lost something. The one-track-mind-Joey of season one has been replaced by just stupid-and-lazy-Joey. While Chandler’s sarcasm has gone from cutting to just plain and obvious. It’s not too bad but it is a sad sign of the decline to come.
Best Line: (Dirty Girl) “Guess who?” (Ro) “Department of Sanitation?”
Best Friend: Ross
