Episode 9 - TOW Ross' Sandwich
29 March 2012
Synopsis: Ross takes tranquilisers for his rage, Joey becomes increasingly annoyed at hiding Monica and Chandler’s relationship and Phoebe and Rachel join a literature class.
The Good: Ross is funny but over the top as he slowly loses the plot and is proud of his new “mental” moniker. The Phoebe and Rachel story has enough character resonance to be bearable.
The Bad: Chandler is a caricature of himself here. His lines aren’t funny and the delivery is camp and unsubtle. There is almost no justification for the ridiculous lengths which Monica and Chandler will go to, to keep their relationship a secret. Monica look’s so pathetic and desperate by the end; it is unbelievable that they wouldn’t just tell the truth. Also, since when is Monica a ridiculously over zealous student? This is classic bad writing and bad understanding of a character. Monica is known for being anal and competitive in some situations but it has never been established that she was annoying in school like this. It is a cheap joke and it is not funny.
Best Line: (Ra) “Yes, he has a naked picture of Monica, he takes naked pictures of us, then he eats chicken and then he looks at them!”
Best Friend: Ross
