Episode 10 - TOW The Monkey

Synopsis: Phoebe falls in love with David, a scientist, but then she learns that he is leaving for Russia. It’s New Years Eve and the guys all break their pact to not invite people to their party. Ross buys a monkey called Marcel and their relationship rapidly deteriorates.
The Good: There are plenty of jokes on offer, many of which are decent. David is a sweet and suitable foil for Phoebe and she is very likeable in her role. Chandler shines as ever whenever he is needed.
The Bad: So far, Ross has always been presented as the logical one. So now when he starts attributing human behaviour to a monkey it just doesn’t seem like him. The plot is not very funny and is another excuse for the writers to use their favourite idea. Janice and Fun Bobby are fine in their roles but the episode feels somewhat pointless outside of the Phoebe story. This show feels somehow thrown together.

(C about Marcel) “You know if you’re gonna work late then I could look in on him for you.”
(Ro) “That’d be great – but if you do make sure it seems like you’re there to see him. Ok you’re not like doing it as a favour to me.”
(C) “Ok but if he asks, I’m not going to lie.”
