Episode 9 - TOW Underdog Gets Away
29 March 2012
Synopsis: The friends’ various plans for thanksgiving are ruined and they are forced to have dinner together.
The Good: This is a “happy ending” kind of episode with a real “family friendly” feel to it. This is no bad thing. Ross has fun talking to the baby and his tension with Susan is played nicely for laughs. Equally Joey being the face of the VD campaign is a straightforward joke which is fine. The misunderstanding between Rachel and Monica over the keys is a very real situation. It plays beautifully in to their characters, one uptight, one self absorbed. Chandler’s dislike of thanksgiving adds spice to the scenes as well; his sarcasm makes even more sense than usual in this situation.
The Bad: I suppose it is a little obvious that they will all end up together and happy in the end. But really that is the charm of the show at this stage, the fact that they all love their friendship so much.
Best Line: (M) “Does anybody wanna split this with me?” (J) “Oh I will.” (P) “You guys have to make a wish.” (M) “Make a wish?” (P) “Come on you know – thanksgiving (P gestures like splitting a wish bone. J and M split the toast) Ooo hoo. You got the bigger half, what did you wish for?” (J) “The bigger half.”
Best Friend: Chandler
