Episode 23 - TOW Rachel Has A Baby (1)

Synopsis: Rachel is in labour for a long time as she and Ross have to negotiate a series of annoying pregnant couples. Monica tries to freak out Chandler by suggesting they start trying for a baby and Phoebe meets an attractive patient. The Good: Chandler being ready to have children is a nice twist. Joey and Phoebe have fun with their plot as he pretends to be a doctor to get information about the guy she likes. Ross and Rachel are in good form here. She plays pregnant and annoyed very amusingly and he is ideal in his role trying to support her. They get the best lines and although their interaction with other couples is predictable it is funny most of the time. The Bad: The bad is you can see where it is all going. Ross’ mother gives him her family engagement ring just as Joey starts mentioning his love for Rachel again. They wheel in Janice as the episode ends because nobody is tired of the old Janice is annoying and oblivious jokes yet. Then there is Joey asking a series of questions which Clifford should discern are not legitimate. As with most part one’s you are really waiting to see how it all pans out. Oh yeah and if Rachel has been there for 17 hours what have all the friends been doing for almost a day? The writers clearly did not think that through. Best Line: (Ra) “I’ve been at this for 17 hours, three women have come and gone with their babies. You’ve gotta give me some good news. How many centimetres am I dilated? Eight, nine?”
(Doctor) “Three.”
(Ro) “Just three! I’m dilated three!” Best Friend: Ross
