Episode 11 - TOW Ross' Step Forward

Synopsis: Monica hates Chandler’s boss, so Chandler tells him that they have split up. Ross gets scared by Mona asking where their relationship is going. So to avoid the conversation he gives her a key to his apartment and then changes the locks. Rachel is in the horny stage of pregnancy, so Phoebe tries to help her.
The Good: A nice tease of sexual tension between Rachel and Joey to show it exists for future stories. As silly as Chandler’s lying is, at least his plot with his boss leads to him making a nice point about his relationship with Monica.
The Bad: Though they ruin it with the ridiculous last line. The characterisation of the other friends is all wrong here. Rachel finding ugly guys attractive could have been funny but there is no subtlety to it. Then Phoebe brings one over for her to have sex with which is a completely inappropriate act. Then she gets annoyed that Rachel is ungrateful which just has no basis in reality or even the stupid character that Phoebe has become. Meanwhile Ross’ reaction to Mona is completely against what has been established as to who he is. Not only is he Mr Marriage and commitment. But recall his relationship with Elizabeth the student. He was the one worried about where things were going and confronted her about it. Here he claims he hates those conversations and is bad at them. It’s an example of really lazy, ignorant writing and is done just to write embarrassing scenes for Ross to act in.
Best Line: (Ro) “Hey Joey, you wanna check out pictures of me and Mona ice skating?”
(J) “Oh uhhh, you know ordinarily I would love to but I am just swamped right now.”
(Ro) “Where are the pictures that creepy pretzel vender took of us together?”
(Mona) “Oh yeah, probably at the end. Oh my God, all he took were pictures of my breasts!”
(J) “I’m missing picture time!”
