Episode 11 - TOW Rachel Goes Back To Work

20 January 2009

Synopsis: Rachel returns to the office and finds her replacement Gavin might replace her permanently. Joey gets cash-strapped Phoebe a job as an extra on Days of Our Lives. Chandler gets an internship in an advertising company and worries that now might not be the best time to have a baby.

The Good: Joey does his best to deal with Phoebe’s stupidity.

The Bad: Three bad plots make for an awful show. Chandler’s attempts at slogan writing are not funny and show zero effort from the writers. Monica is even worse; a caricature of who she once was, her obsessive organising and worrying is portrayed in such a grating, unreal way it drags the whole show down. Rachel’s plot with Gavin is the least annoying of the three, but we are given little reason to care about her childish banter with him. Phoebe is appalling here, why would anyone care about this story or tolerate her thinking she is an actress or has fans? The whole extras story is implausible and very annoying. Even Ross is lame in this episode; bad lines combined with a wet performance from him put the nail in the coffin of this terrible piece of television.

Best Line: (Director) “What, what, what are you doing?”
(P – points to J) “Yeah well I’m very angry at him because he slept with me and never called me back.”
(Extra 1) “Me too.”
(Extra 2) “Me too.”
(J) “Oh calm down, she means on the show. We need some new extras around here.”

Best Friend: Joey
