Episode 7 - TOW Ross's Inappropriate Song

25 March 2012

Synopsis: Ross sings an offensive rap song to Emma and she laughs for the first time. Despite her reservations Rachel joins in. Phoebe meets Mike’s parents for the first time and it goes badly. Joey looks around Richard’s old apartment and Chandler finds a tape with Monica’s name on it.

The Good: The Richard sex tape is an interesting story and allows Chandler and Joey to have some funny moments. Rachel and Ross are ok in their harmless plot.

The Bad: The Phoebe plot is really bad. As usual Mike is as funny as a cardboard cut out. Phoebe is awful and the awkward conversations with Mike’s parents are worse. Phoebe digs awful holes for herself both being fake and being real. The awkward things she says come across as incredibly contrived. This later season Phoebe is usually dismissive of all around her because she doesn’t care what people think. Where as here she grovels before Mike’s parents so the results are as unconvincing as possible. Meanwhile shrill Monica has another unconvincing rant at Chandler who lets his jealousy get the best of him. Not a good episode, but it could have been worse without a couple of good jokes.

Best Line: (K) “Oh hi come on in, I’m Katherine the listing agent.”
(J) “Hi, I’m Joey, this is Chandler.”
(C) “So how come Richard’s selling the place? Went bankrupt? Medical malpractice? Choked on his own moustache?”
(K) “Actually he’s buying a much bigger place; it’s got a great view of Central Park…”
(C) “Ah that’s enough out of you.”

Best Friend: Joey
