Episode 4 - TOW The Sharks

25 March 2012

Synopsis: Monica surprises Chandler in Tulsa and finds him being turned on by sharks. Joey dates a girl he thinks he has slept with before but she doesn’t seem to remember him. Ross upsets Phoebe by pointing out that she has never been in a serious relationship. He then tries to fix things with her and Mike.

The Good: The sharks plot is so out there I am tempted to say it shows the writers are at least thinking outside of the box. The issue of marital masturbation is at least somewhere in reality. Joey is good here, a frivolous storyline but he gets his jokes in nicely.

The Bad: Still the sharks plot doesn’t play out well. It makes Monica look like a moron and several times she shows how little she knows, cares or understands Chandler. Which is ridiculous as they are supposed to have a solid marriage. The Ross, Phoebe and Mike story is also stupid. Again it is based on the premise that Mike would think Phoebe a freak for not having had a long term relationship, which just doesn’t ring true. Also Mike is rude to Ross from the outset which makes him pretty unlikeable.

Best Line: (P) “He was sweet and smart and funny. Do you know how hard it is to meet a guy like that?”
(Ro) “We are a rare breed.”

Best Friend: Joey
