Episode 16 - L'il Sebastian

6 March 2012

This has been a very consistent third season and it ends with yet another solid instalment.

Again I felt it was low on laughs and the adoration of a small horse is too silly for me to fully lose myself in. The story of how Ben and Leslie managed to mess around with the Li'l Sebastian celebrations was rushed and not fully explained. Surely Ron having his hair burnt off should have been built up to for full comic effect?

However I still enjoyed it a lot. All the characters had something fun to do including Chris who has grown on me a bit as the season has gone on. I really did smile at him saying he would give up doing 10,000 push ups to only do 5,000 with a woman he loved. Then adding "sitting on my back to increase my resistance."

The setup for next season was very strong. It looks like Leslie will finally fulfil some of her political ambition, Tom will find out what the world of business is really like and Ron will get reacquainted with his ex-wife.

The fact that Parks and Recreation is the best comedy on TV right now says a lot more about the weak state of comedy than it does about Parks. I still think the show is too cartoony and not funny enough to receive the high praise it is getting. However the show is consistently entertaining and very pleasant. I would have no problem declaring it the most pleasant comedy on TV and that is nothing to sniff at.

P.s. I know it would have alienated half the audience but shouldn't the people who came to recruit Leslie have told her which party they were from?

  • it's funny you mention the p.s., as the scene was playing out I was actually thinking to myself, "why haven't they told her what party they represent? shouldn't she know that?"
