Episode 13 - The Fight

6 March 2012

This was another solid episode of comedy, nothing to get annoyed or excited about.

The Office writers have a bad habit of suddenly changing their characters established traits when it suits a new idea they have (Jan and Ryan are the worst examples). I was a bit afraid they were going that direction with Ann, turning her from spineless but nice into some kind of irresponsible douche-dater. It seems like she is now back to normal but it remains odd that three seasons in I still don't know who she is. Now that she will be working in City Hall it would be nice to define her a little more clearly.

I'm not a big fan of the show's use of jump cut interviews where a character essentially lists a bunch of punch lines. Even if some of those ideas are clever I don't think there's much humour in contextless lists of things (see my How I Met Your Mother reviews for way more rants about that).

Otherwise I like Tom and Jean Ralphio interacting and Ron was good as usual. Ron standing up for Tom was nice to see considering his pro-business philosophy. I also liked the logic of Chris cracking down on Tom's unethical use of his government contacts.

So much of Parks is just pleasant. Andy and April act like children and I can't say I laughed much at their antics but they are perfectly pleasant entertainment.
