Episode 10 - Citizen Knope

6 March 2012

I didn't think there was much to this. Leslie loses her campaign team but predictably her friends rally round her. Ben hasn't yet found a job.

That's about it. All the present giving was fine, I have no complaints. I did laugh at Andy being told to go throw up after eating spray painted M&Ms. Leslie's PCP action group was clearly meant to be a short term distraction and so it proved.

The idea of Leslie polling at 1% is both silly and kind of believable. I mean surely people in Pawnee would know who she was and have an opinion on her. But then again who does know the names of their local politicians? If all you knew about them was that they had slept with their boss then I could see respondents to a survey saying that they wouldn't vote for her.

Yet another simplistic happy ending did bother me a bit though. The show has done so many of them that they have begun to mean less and less. The Parks department has also lost a sense of reality because every single one of them is now a paid up member of the Leslie Knope fan club. Also, surely Chris will have a major problem with a whole department campaigning on behalf of another employee?

When Leslie's team dropped her it made me wonder if the show was just sending Leslie back to work the way it did with Tom. The show is called Parks and Recreation. What will happen to the show if Leslie wins a seat on the city council?

  • This may be a case of just familiarity breeding contempt. I didn't think any of this was bad. I just thought I had seen it all before. The last three episodes have all ended with Leslie getting the happy ending and I just felt it was too much. I shrugged rather than feeling it was an earned moment.

This should make the podcast a little spicier :-)

  • Say what!? Wow, I thought this was one of the best episodes of the season. Combination of both the funny and the feel good. And I definitely thought it was better than last night's Community.

It's rare for us to be in disagreement, but I definitely would have this one up around 60-62 on your scale.
