Episode 7 - How Munched is that Birdie in the Window

30 November 2010

Credit FOX

Synopsis: Bart adopts a stray carrier pigeon. The pigeon gets eaten by Santa's Little Helper. Bart is so upset that the family decide to give SLH away. They take him to an ostrich farm upstate but of course Bart doesn't give him away.

The Good: Nothing.

The Bad: Anthropomorphised animals have always been a part of the show but when they dominate a plot to this extent it's hard to get very involved in the story. The fact that the moral of this story appeared to be "everyone kills birds" didn't help either. We have seen Santa's Little Helper threaten to terminate his stay with the family so many times that it long ceased to be of much interest. His part in the story only appeared half way through after some monotonous pigeon action.

The jokes were poor or mindless: The exaggerated Second World War DVD commercial had no shred of reality. I don't see why Mr Burns would follow instructions from a carrier pigeon. Moe openly admits to trying to scam Homer out of his house which is just so dumb and pointless I don't understand why you would write it. Homer laughing at ink blots which we don't know the significance of isn't really a joke.

Best Joke: Bart reminisces about the good times he had with Santa's Little Helper. He recalls how their picture appeared in the paper with the caption "Who's Walking Who?" Homer adds "I mailed them the answer but they never printed it."

The Bottom Line: A waste of time.
