Joey and Rachel keep failing to tell Ross about their relationship. Meanwhile Phoebe breaks up with Mike’s girlfriend for him and Monica gets her hair done into cornrows which Chandler doesn’t like.
Having discovered Joey and Rachel kissing, Ross pretends he is fine and invites them and Charlie over for dinner. Monica and Chandler go to see a couple for advice on adoption and Chandler tells their son he is adopted before they have. Phoebe meets Frank and the triplets and Frank is having trouble keeping them all under control.
It’s Emma’s first birthday and Ross and Rachel plan a party with a cake and presents. The other friends all have reasons to want to leave and when the cake turns out to be pornographic Rachel has to rush off to fix it giving them a chance to escape.
Rachel’s sister Amy visits and ends up getting Emma’s ears pierced without asking permission. Joey writes a letter of recommendation for Chandler and Monica’s adoption application and Mike tries to propose to Phoebe.
Ross is up for an important grant and the man making the decision is Charlie’s ex-boyfriend. Chandler lands his first national television commercial but lies to Joey about not wanting to cast him in it. Mike asks Phoebe to throw out an old hideous painting she made and Monica and Rachel try to avoid receiving it.
Monica and Chandler meet the social worker who will decide if they can get a baby but she once slept with Joey and he never called her. Rachel and Ross go to the playground with Emma to overcome Rachel’s fears. Phoebe and Mike can’t decide whether to donate their money to charity or to have a big wedding.
Phoebe convinces Monica to cook thanksgiving dinner once again but the other four friends are all late. Ross and Joey head to a hockey game and Rachel and Phoebe take Emma to a baby beauty pageant.
Chandler and Monica meet a girl wanting to give her daughter up for adoption, Rachel chooses clothes for Ross to wear on a date and Joey doesn’t share food.
Phoebe and Rachel see Chandler with a woman and think he is having an affair. However it turns out she was showing him round a house outside the City which Monica and Chandler then buy. Half a clip show.
Phoebe wants a stripper at her bachelorette party but as they order at the last minute they get a short old man instead (Danny Devito). Joey is on the game show Pyramid but his ineptitude costs the contestants their chance of winning. Meanwhile Chandler and Ross go to a college reunion and remember how they both broke their pacts over girls they wouldn’t date.
Joey needs to speak some French for a play he wants to be in and so he enlists Phoebe to teach him. Rachel’s Dad has a heart attack and so Ross takes her to the hospital. Monica and Chandler take Erika around New York and ask her about the father of the baby.
Ross tries to get Rachel’s old job back so that she will stay in New York. Joey’s agent Estelle dies and Phoebe tries to keep the news from him. Chandler and Monica go to see the house next door to the one they are buying and discover Janice is going to buy it.
After sleeping with Rachel, Ross wants to get back together, but she sees it as the perfect way to say goodbye. Erika gives birth to twins which Chandler and Monica bring home.
Phoebe drives Ross to the airport at break-neck speed. Eventually he gets to meet Rachel at the gate and tell her he loves her but she gets on the plane anyway. Meanwhile Chandler and Joey have to dismantle the foosball table when the baby chick and duck get trapped inside. Rachel gets off the plane and gets back together with Ross. Monica and Chandler move out and the friends go for one last cup of coffee.
