Scranton has had three interns working for them over the summer. When Michal discovers gossip about them which he wasn’t a part of he craves to be included. He discovers that Stanley is having an affair and spreads the rumour as widely as he can. When he confronts Stanley, he finds that it is true and he has to figure out how to make everyone else not believe it. So he begins spreading false rumours about everyone else in the office. One of those rumours, that Pam is pregnant, happens to be true. When he is forced to come clean about his lies, Jim and Pam admit to the pregnancy to protect Stanley. Unfortunately Michael just can’t keep his big mouth shut.
David Wallace is visiting Scranton and has a meeting with Jim. Michael is paranoid about it and tries to get into the meeting. When he suspects Jim might be given his job, he tells David that Jim shouldn’t be given a management position. Jim confronts Michael and when Michael understands the situation he agrees to become co-manager with Jim. Meanwhile Pam’s attempts to get RSVPs to the wedding fail predictably. Dwight encourages Toby to investigate an insurance claim from Darryl.
Jim and Michael have to decide how to spread out a meagre cost of living raise to the staff. Pam has to embarrassingly ask people to give cash as a wedding present. Dwight tries to stir a rebellion against Jim.
It’s Jim and Pam’s wedding in Niagra Falls. Michael is hugely excited for all sorts of reasons including the pickup opportunities. He is frustrated to find he can’t get a room and Dwight steals the girl he was after. He seeks comfort in the arms of the similarly bitter Mrs Beasley. Andy tears his scrotum and Kevin’s shoes get thrown away. On the day of the wedding Jim whisks Pam away to get married on a cruise ship. They return to complete the formal ceremony only for their friends to act out a popular youtube wedding video.
An insurance salesman Angelo Grotti pops by to give a sales pitch to Michael. Andy and Dwight suspect he maybe mafia and whip Michael into a frenzy of fear. With no Jim and Pam around Oscar stands alone to try and talk Michael out of his madness. Michael, Andy and Dwight go to lunch with Grotti and buy a policy. Andy and Dwight then “lie” and convince Michael that Grotti isn’t mafia. Meanwhile Kevin takes over Jim’s office and accidentally cancels his credit card.
Jim and Pam return to the news that Michael is sleeping with Pam’s mother. She freaks out after Jim tried to hide the news from her. Michael is upset that Pam doesn’t care about his happiness. Dwight plants a bug in Jim’s office.
Michael falls into a koi pond while out on a sales call with Jim. When everyone makes fun of him he tries to stop them from making fun of one another. Andy and Pam are out doing sales calls together.
Michael takes out Helene for her birthday and Pam and Jim are forced to go along. When Michael realises the age difference between them he starts to back out of the relationship. He breaks up with her and tries to stop Pam from being angry with him. She agrees to hit him after work to make them even. Meanwhile Dwight schemes to get everyone in the office to owe him one, so that he can cash in those favours to take Jim’s job.
The Wall Street Journal reports that Dunder Mifflin will soon declare bankruptcy. The whole office fears for their jobs. Michael decides that a murder mystery game will distract everyone from their problems. Jim thinks everyone should be working. Andy asks out Erin in character and she says yes. He then worries that she didn’t think he meant it and they end up cancelling what they had both thought was a real date.
Michael is invited to the Dunder Mifflin shareholders meeting as one of the positives amongst the company’s disastrous economic performance. The company send a limo to pick him up and he brings Andy, Dwight and Oscar with him. Oscar is fuming, both as an accountant and as a stock holder. Michael makes promises to the crowd just to get a cheer out of them and Oscar refuses to ask any awkward questions for fear of losing his job. Back at the office Jim finds a novel solution to stop Ryan from slacking off.
Ten years ago Michael promised to pay for an entire third grade class’s college tuition. Now they are about to graduate and he has to admit he doesn’t have the money. Dwight’s latest scheme to get Jim fired involves setting up an employee of the month programme and then rigging the results.
Jim allows Phyllis to be Santa at the office Christmas party which infuriates Michael who also dresses as Santa. Michael competes with her and then changes into a Jesus costume and heckles her. He calls David Wallace to complain and learns that the company is being sold. He tells everyone but they are relieved to hear from David that they will keep their jobs. Meanwhile Andy gives Erin the “12 Days of Christmas” and Oscar flirts with Matt from the warehouse.
A potential buyer sends a banker to check the viability of the Scranton branch. Michael puts on a show to try and impress him and keep the branch in operation. Eric Ward spends most of his time talking to Toby to ascertain whether the branch has any outstanding liabilities. A clip show.
The Scranton branch have been bought by Sabre. Gabe arrives to install Sabre policies at the branch and naturally Michael resents it. Sabre CEO Jo Bennett tells Michael to accept it and he races off to get advice from David Wallace. Wallace has become lethargic since losing his job. His new business proposals are so bad that it drives Michael back to Scranton determined not to lose his job.
Sabre CEO Jo Bennett comes to visit Scranton and insists that there be only one branch manager. Michael wants it bad and when Jim realises he could make a lot more money in sales he agrees. Soon Michael finds out and gets his way and rejoins the sales team. But he misses his office and they convince Jo to let them switch back. Meanwhile Dwight and Ryan meet to plot a new scheme for getting Jim demoted. Andy gives everyone Valentines Day cards so as not to be too obvious with his affection for Erin. He accidentally gives her card to Kelly.
Jim and Pam's HMO will only cover them for two nights stay in the hospital and so she is determined not to arrive until after midnight. But as the working day wears on her contractions get closer together and Jim wants to take her in. She refuses and Michael rallies everyone to distract her. Once at the hospital she ends up in labour for over a day as Jim goes spare and Michael anxiously waits outside. Once the baby arrives she has trouble latching and Pam and Jim fret about that. Michael is bathing in the afterglow and tries to set Kevin up with Erin. Fortunately Andy finally asks her out instead. Meanwhile Dwight decides that he too wants a child and asks Angela to be the mother. He then heads to Jim and Pam's house to pick up her ipod but ends up staying to remove mould he finds in the kitchen.
