Spartacus is a drama about a Thracian soldier imprisoned by the Roman Republic around the turn of the 1st century BC. He is sold into slavery and trained to be a gladiator in the city of Capua. STARZ 2010-???
Spartacus and Crixus both lead groups of gladiators on raids around Capua. Spartacus carves a message into one of his victim's bodies to get Glaber's attention. Glaber is dispatched by his father in law to put them down. Oenomaus warns the slaves about this but won't join them. Spartacus helps Crixus learn more of Naevia's whereabouts. Glaber and Ilithyia set up home in Batiatus' villa and are shocked to discover Lucretia still there. They use her survival as a rallying point for the citizenry.
In flashback we learn how Oenomaus was recruited by Titus and developed his sense of honour. In the present he fights in the pits waiting for death. At the ludus Glaber needs more men and so goes to Seppius to request his support. Lucretia makes a sacrifice to the Gods and is seen as blessed by the people of Capua. Spartacus and Crixus take control of a villa and begin freeing its slaves. One slave, Tiberius, tries to kill Spartacus. Spartacus insists on training him to be a soldier. Mira worries about her relationship with Spartacus and the kind of freedom the new slaves are acquiring.
Ashur tortures Oenomaus until he discovers that Spartacus and Crixus are chasing Naevia. While freeing some slaves Agron and Nassir learn that Naevia has been sent to the mines. Agron refuses to go and instead leads his followers to Vesuvius. Crixus and Spartacus head to the mines and Mira leads them to Naevia.
Ilithyia suggests a celebration in the villa. Crixus, Rhaskos, Oenomaus and another gladiator are paraded before the guests. Ilithyia manoeuvres to get her father to dissolve her marriage to Glaber so she can be with Varinius. Lucretia sleeps with Senator Albinius to push him toward that end. In the forest Spartacus leads what's left of Crixus' men toward Vesuvius. They die off one by one and Nassir is badly wounded.
