Review
Synopsis: Phoebe drives Ross to the airport at break-neck speed. Eventually he gets to meet Rachel at the gate and tell her he loves her but she gets on the plane anyway. Meanwhile Chandler and Joey have to dismantle the foosball table when the baby chick and duck get trapped inside. Rachel gets off the plane and gets back together with Ross. Monica and Chandler move out and the friends go for one last cup of coffee. The Good: Ross and Rachel had to get back together and they do it in a nice way. Despite being as subtle as a smack in the face Phoebe does add some humour to the first half of the episode. Ross has the best moment though when he screams “precious” down the phone at new-mum Monica. The writers do a good job making this a true finale with Phoebe and Mike talking babies, dismantling the foosball table and then moving out of Monica’s apartment. The final shot of the empty room is very effective at making you realise what you will miss. The Bad: Ross and Rachel should have had more of a build up during the season with more clues dropped about their feelings for each other. Also, surely Ross should offer to go to Paris with Rachel? Only a couple of episodes ago he realised that Paris was her dream job and he made great efforts to get her to go there. There is nothing particularly special about the humour in the finale which is very much like that of other later season episodes. The “phalange” on the plane stuff is really stupid. Overall though this is a decent final episode which covers a lot of bases and leaves you feeling sad but with a complete story. Best Line: (Ro – on phone to M) “Hey, hey listen.” (M) “Oh my God Ross you wouldn’t believe the cute little noises the twins are making, listen.” (Ro) “Monica, Monica, Monica, Monica, Monica.” (M) “Oh I’m sorry, shoot. They were doing it before.” (Ro) “That’s alright, listen, listen.” (M) “No, no, no, wait here they go again.” (Ro) “Monica, Monica, Monica, Monica, Monica.” (M) “Isn’t that cute?” (Ro) “Yeah that’s PRECIOUS!” Best Friend: Ross
