Review

Synopsis: For the Mother's Day edition of TGS all the crew's moms come to town including Colleen. She has figured out that Jack is seeing two women and asks him to choose. The other moms round on Liz for holding out for the one and advise her to settle. When she finds out that her mom dated Buzz Aldrin she goes to meet him to see what her mom missed out on. Meanwhile Tracy gets an actress to play his mom and Jenna has more issues with Verna.

The Good: The power of Jack Donaghy plots to rise above the rest of 30 Rock continues as Colleen demands he make a choice between Avery and Nancy. It was a somewhat touching moment when he asks for her advice and she can't give it. I did like the continuity of the actresses that were brought in to reprise their roles as the staff moms.

The script written for Buzz Aldrin was decent but obviously he is not an actor.

The Bad: I'm not sure what to make of Liz' conclusion that there isn't an ideal man out there and she ought to just find a good one. In some TV shows it might have been a welcome conclusion. But if there's one thing 30 Rock has driven home again and again it's that Liz is wrong. So instead of seeing Liz make sensible choices I can't help but think further needless humiliations are in store.

The Jenna and Tracy stories were difficult to care about. In a show which long ago killed any sense of reality in these characters, it seems a bit weird to try and dig up some sentiment now. And Verna and Jenna went through the exact same dynamic we saw only eight episodes ago.

The adoption joke with Danny's mom being Asian was about as dumb as it's possible to be.

Comic Highlight: Slim pickings. Tracy finally accepts the actress playing his mom and says to her "I think I'm ready for the sex talk."

The Bottom Line: Meh, nothing too annoying.
