Review
Synopsis: Rachel tries to stop Ross and Jill (Reese Witherspoon) from dating. The other friends discover that Phoebe is a porn star and that Chandler can’t cry. The Good: Rachel being uncomfortable with Ross dating her sister makes sense. It is well handled by all three with Reese Witherspoon again playing the bratty sister very well. They manage to conclude the story nicely by making it about Ross and Rachel. The Phoebe and Ursula porn story is a nice side plot. It allows the writers to make loads of cheap porn jokes but also to show Joey’s moral side which is a nice touch. The Bad: The Chandler can’t cry story is awful. Instead of treating him like a friend, the others mock and criticise him for something he can’t control. Monica is especially mean to someone she is supposed to love. It doesn’t relate well to his character either, if he still behaved like he did in season one then it would be obvious to everyone why he couldn’t cry. Here when he does it has no resonance and feels very contrived. The assumption seems to be that a guy crying is inherently funny, which it isn’t.
