Episode 5 - TOW Frank Jr

Review
Synopsis: Phoebe’s half brother Frank comes to stay with her. Chandler explains the list of five celebrities he and Janice are allowed to sleep with and Ross ends up meeting Isabella Rossellini who was on his list. Meanwhile Joey builds an entertainment unit for the guys’ apartment, but it is too big. The Good: Chandler has his moments here as he falls foul of Joey’s lazy workmanship. Joey is funny as well especially when he messes up Monica’s floor. The Phoebe and Ross stories are both harmless if not very interesting. The Bad: This is an episode that feels devoid of anything special. Ross seems to be setting himself up for some kind of funny humiliation as he approaches Isabella but in the end it is gentle comedy. Similarly Frank Jr is portrayed as a weird, naïve guy from the suburbs who Phoebe can’t relate to. This should lead to them finding their common ground for a touching moment but it never happens. The scene which is meant to portray their bonding falls flat as the writers are busy making cheap jokes about Frank being weird. Chandler and Joey bickering over the entertainment unit is good for some laughs but it is just slapstick with no purpose. Best Line: (C walks in to the apartment to find J surrounded by loads of wood) “So what happened, did a forest tick you off?”
(J) “No. You know how we’re always saying we need a place for the mail.”
(C) “Yeah?”
(J) “Well I started building one but then I decided to take it to the next step.”
(C) “You’re building a post office?” Best Friend: Chandler
