Episode 8 - TOW Late Thanksgiving

20 January 2009

Review

Synopsis: Phoebe convinces Monica to cook thanksgiving dinner once again but the other four friends are all late. Ross and Joey head to a hockey game and Rachel and Phoebe take Emma to a baby beauty pageant.

The Good: The floating heads begging for forgiveness is fun and Joey is excellent at everything he does. From trying to win at rock, paper, scissors to his convincing eyes he is funny throughout. Rachel has her fun moments as well as she lies about the baby beauty pageant.

The Bad: But despite the fun this is a bad episode. Chandler is a joke here and not a funny one. His obsession with cranberries is unbelievable and he sounds like a child when he scolds the guys for going to the game. Monica is as bad, the vein on her head isn’t really there and so is a really lame joke. Her competitiveness again comes across as unreal and forced. Phoebe and Rachel going to the baby beauty pageant is creepy enough but then Phoebe comes across as very weird pushing Rachel into putting makeup on Emma and calling another baby a dog. Overall this just feels like an argument about nothing created simply for the reveal at the end that Monica and Chandler will be getting a baby. That was hardly in doubt, so is not exactly an amazing moment. Oh and how could Phoebe know whether Monica’s dinner was any good the year before when she is a vegetarian? More lazy writing.

Best Line: (Ro) “Hey hey, guess what Joey has?”
(J) “Three tickets to today’s Rangers game!”
(Ro) “Dude, I wanted him to guess.”
(C) “Oh my God.”
(J) “Yeah they’re great seats too.”
(Ro) “Guess where they are.”
(J) “Centre Ice.”
(Ro) “Did I do something to you?”

Best Friend: Joey

  • You are right. This episode is really boring except at the end when Monica tells "I don't care. We are having a baby!"
