Episode 1 - TOW Monica's Thunder

Review
Synopsis: Monica wants to celebrate her engagement by going out but she catches Ross and Rachel kissing and thinks that they have stolen her thunder. Meanwhile Phoebe wants to sing at the wedding and Joey is trying to look 19 years old for an audition. The Good: This is a good episode driven by Monica and Rachel’s relationship. It is very real that Rachel would feel sad that her best friend was married and she wasn’t. They use the backstory of Monica and Chandler getting together to prove the point which is excellent. The comedy is supplied by Joey, who is fine trying to pass for 19 though it is a silly story. And by Ross who is the star here, as his hopes of sleeping with Rachel are raised and dashed his reactions are spot on. The Bad: Phoebe is annoying. I suppose she is supposed to be as she demands a part in the wedding. However I don’t think she is funny, she just grates with everything she does. Chandler is a bit lost here. His sexual failings should be the source of some good one liners but he isn’t given much good to say and what he does he doesn’t perform particularly well. Best Line: (Ro) “And uh Rachel. What can I say, you missed your chance. From now on the only person who’s going to enjoy these bad boys (holding up his hands) is me.” Best Friend: Ross
