Episode 20 - TOW Rachel's Big Kiss
19 January 2009
Review
Synopsis: Joey invites his parents to Monica’s wedding even though she didn’t. Rachel is able to hook Chandler and Ross up with tuxedos worn by celebrities. Rachel meets Melissa, an old college friend she once kissed, but Phoebe won’t believe it happened. The Good: Joey is like a human jack-in-a-box here popping up to bring comedy to an otherwise nothingy episode. He is the only real highlight here. The Bad: The Joey’s parent invitation story is dull and the tuxedo one is pointless although at least it leads up to a punch line. Chandler’s manhood is constantly questioned throughout which is just stupid and undermines his character. The Rachel story dominates the episode and seems to be just an excuse for Phoebe to be unkind to her and Joey to make lesbian jokes. The ending is pretty awful. Having acted completely bemused by Rachel’s claims throughout, Melissa suddenly admits she has been in love with Rachel all along. Then she has to do an embarrassing climb down after she is rejected. It is awkward and badly written, has no place in reality and is not remotely funny enough to justify how awful it is. Best Line: (M – points to Ross’ tuxedo) “Do you just carry that around?” (Ro) “Yes. I find it to be something of a conversation piece.” (M) “Between you and…” (Ro) “Gunther.” Best Friend: Joey
