Episode 13 - TOW Rosita Dies
19 January 2009
Review
Synopsis: Joey breaks ‘Rosita’, his easy-chair and has to buy a new one. The Gellars are selling their family home and Ross discovers that his father has managed to damage all of Monica’s childhood possessions. Phoebe takes a job as a tele-marketer and her first call is a man (Jason Alexander) threatening to commit suicide. The Good: Joey is fun in his childlike reactions to his chair and the new one which he prefers. Ross also adds comedy in his usual geeky way. The Bad: But this is a poor episode. The Ross and Monica story doesn’t do much for either of them and Jack giving Monica his Porsche is tantamount to admitting that he loved Ross more. It feels like a very unhealthy message to send. The chair plot is just silly and pointless. Then there is Phoebe who runs through all the “I’m oblivious” jokes you can make about selling toner before she calls the suicidal supply manager. That story goes nowhere either as she hardly saves his life; he is no happier at the end of the story than he was at the start. The show also manages to trivialise suicide in a flippant and typically unsubtle manner. It is all such a criminal waste of Jason Alexander who was one of the best sit com actors of the time. Best Line: (Ro) “Cool! Dad, my report cards. Check this out Dad: Math A, Science A, History A, Gym……Ooooh my rock polisher!” Best Friend: Joey
