Episode 2 - TOW Ross Is Fine

20 January 2009

Review

Synopsis: Having discovered Joey and Rachel kissing, Ross pretends he is fine and invites them and Charlie over for dinner. Monica and Chandler go to see a couple for advice on adoption and Chandler tells their son he is adopted before they have. Phoebe meets Frank and the triplets and Frank is having trouble keeping them all under control.

The Good: Despite being short the Phoebe plot is quite nice. She plays along with Frank’s desperation in order to show him how much he loves his kids. Joey, Rachel and Ross have the odd moment of humour.

The Bad: The Phoebe plot is very short though and it is difficult to see the point of it. Where have Frank and Alice been for the last five seasons of the show? She clearly hasn’t done much babysitting for the children she gave birth to. Monica and Chandler also have a pointless plot. It’s just silly cheap jokes thrown out for no particularly good reason as Chandler makes a fool out of himself and Monica comes across as very unlikeable. Ross is forced to overact and do very poor drunk acting. The writers show complete ineptitude as they attempt to squeeze humour out of an awkward situation. These scenes are pretty painful to watch despite the fact that they make two good points. One that Ross will never be ok with Rachel and Joey being together and two that he won’t let them break up over him.

Best Line: (Ro) “E is for how extremely normal I find it that you two are together. And that one day you might get married and have children of your own.”
(J) “Dude are you ok?”
(Ro) “Totally.”
(Ra) “Ross you don’t seem ok.”
(Ro) “I’m sorry it must be the pressure of entertaining.”

Best Friend: Ross

  • The only line Joey gets to tell repeatedly is "Are you okay?" It was boring. But in this episode, Chandler and Monica meet Erica and show her N.Y. I liked Erica's role.
