Episode 21 - TOW Ross Meets Elizabeth's Dad
19 January 2009
Review
Synopsis: Joey’s job on Mac and CHEESE depends on him getting on with the man who invented and operates the robot. Ross meets Elizabeth’s father (Bruce Willis) and enlists the other friends to help talk him up. Rachel ends up dating him. Phoebe is writing a book and begins writing down everything Monica and Chandler say for inspiration. The Good: Bruce Willis is solid in his role as the scary father and Ross’ rich back-story of embarrassment leads to some nice but obvious jokes. Joey’s story is very simple but it is bearable because he is funny and likeable. The Bad: Ross becoming embarrassed gets played out very quickly and becomes repetitive. Of course it’s not as bad as Phoebe writing down what Chandler and Monica are saying. There is no point to the entire plot and not much humour at all. The idea of Phoebe writing novels for herself is treated so flippantly that you don’t believe it will have any consequence and of course it doesn’t. The need to find things for these three actors to do has never been so graphically unnecessary. More time should have been devoted to the other stories. Best Line: (M – trying to impress Paul) “It is so strange seeing Ross here at this time of day because usually he’s at the children’s hospital.” (P) “Not looking for dates.” Best Friend: Ross
