Episode 3 - TOW Ross’s Denial
19 January 2009
Review
Synopsis: Though denying it to Phoebe, Ross realises he is in love with Rachel again. As she needs somewhere to stay he asks her to be his roommate. Meanwhile Chandler and Monica argue over what to do with the guest bedroom and Joey interviews new girl roommates. The Good: It is nice that the three plots all revolve around Monica and Chandler’s decision to live together. It gives the episode a nice logic. Ross is the star here as he goes back and forth on his decision to ask Rachel to live with him. As stupid as his scenes arguing with Monica and Chandler are, they are the comedy highlight. The Bad: Chandler and Monica’s arguments are really bad and make them look like a couple that will never last. They both appear unreasonable and unlikeable. Phoebe having a roommate no one has heard of is the epitome of stupid writing. Why put something that implausible in the show? Is anyone laughing? Phoebe taunting Ross about being in love with Rachel and saying nothing to her makes Phoebe look like a terrible friend to both of them. This is just a sad decline. There is no reality left in these characters. Instead of finding the humour in real life the writers just make contrived silly plots like this that erode what once made the show great. Best Line: (P) “Now if you wanna receive emails about my upcoming shows then please give me money so I can buy a computer.” Best Friend: Ross
