Episode 4 - TOW The Cake

20 January 2009

Review

Synopsis: It’s Emma’s first birthday and Ross and Rachel plan a party with a cake and presents. The other friends all have reasons to want to leave and when the cake turns out to be pornographic Rachel has to rush off to fix it giving them a chance to escape.

The Good: There are some good one-liners here. The Gellars are always good value and Joey is very funny as he reads the story, comes up with ways to work out who can leave and of course finding the penis cake delicious. Generally speaking the episode has a good focus around the birthday party.

The Bad: But it’s just a bit insignificant. Nothing is very funny and there isn’t much going on. Ross goes around filming people for Emma’s 18th birthday and it is just an excuse to do cheap jokes. Speaking of which, a pornographic cake is about as cheap as they come. Especially when they have the scene with Ross and Rachel in the car there is a feeling that the writers are just fleshing this episode out to fill time.

Best Line: (Ro) “Well you know what, while we’re waiting you guys could tape your message to Emma on her 18th birthday. Huh? Ok.”
(C) “Hi Emma, it’s the year 2020. Are you still enjoying your nap?”

Best Friend: Joey

  • I liked the jokes Chandler makes about Emma's nap. Through out all the seasons the one thing that irritates me about Joey is he talks either of food or sex. It's cheap and disgusting!
