Episode 10 - TOW The Holiday Armadillo
19 January 2009
Review
Synopsis: Phoebe’s apartment is ready again (after the fire) and she tries to make Rachel want to live with her by buying Joey annoying gifts. Chandler tries to learn to hand money to people with a subtle handshake and Ross tries to teach Ben about Honokaa. The Good: This is a really enjoyable episode. The highlight is obviously the scene where Ross, Chandler and Joey all dress up to try and give Ben a nice Christmas. Ross is the star and he is very funny as the Holiday Armadillo, waddling about getting frustrated. The reactions of the others spawn several good lines as well. Chandler’s money handling plot is fine and feeds nicely into the other plots. Joey is good in his childlike way as he plays the drums Phoebe bought him and then runs scared from the tarantula. One of the strengths of this episode is that Ross is trying to teach Ben about Honokaa and by having that moral \ sentimental purpose in mind, the story has a pleasing logical feeling about it amongst all the silly ideas. The Bad: Phoebe constantly trying to deceive Rachel is not how friends should behave. And the way she sells out her “mother’s spirit” because she likes the way the apartment looks is typical of the way she has lost all integrity as a character. Ben is an annoying child who should recognise his own father at that age. It’s a cheap shot for a child actor, so he should have been written more convincingly. Best Line: (M) “Well come in, have a seat, you must be exhausted coming all the way from…Texas.” (Ben) “Texas?” (Ro) “That’s right Ben. I’m Santa’s representative for all the Southern states. And MEXICO!” Best Friend: Ross
