Episode 7 - TOW The Racecar Bed (1)
17 January 2009
Review
Synopsis: Monica buys a mattress from Janice’s ex-husband; the Mattress King. When the wrong mattress is delivered and she goes to complain, she discovers Janice cheating on Chandler. Rachel tries to get Ross to bond with her Dad. They finally connect but only when they criticise Rachel. Joey teaches a class on soap opera acting and gives bad advice to one of his students when they are in competition for a part. The Good: The mattress plot appears to be filler until the twist at the end which is good. Joey is fun as a teacher and especially screwing over his student who ends up getting the part because of his advice. Ron Liebman is excellent as Rachel’s Dad. The incident with tipping in the restaurant is very well written. While Ross seems like the good guy, you can see Dr Green’s point of view exactly. They end up agreeing about Rachel’s “failures” which is not only a laugh but is a true reflection of how people bond over mutual friends. The Bad: Monica seems callous in her attitude to the mattress. If she really cared about Chandler then I’m sure New York has other bed shops. Much of Joey’s teaching comes across as silly and unrealistic for the sake of cheap laughs. Best Line: (Ra to Ross) “Just one dinner, please, one night, for me please. I just want him to love you like I do. Alright well not exactly like I do. But if you do come to dinner I’ll love you like I do in that black thing that you like.” (C) “I’ll go.” Best Friend: Joey
