Episode 2 - TOW Where No One’s Ready
17 January 2009
Review
Synopsis: It’s half an hour until a benefit for the museum where Ross is making a speech. None of the friends are ready to go. Chandler and Joey have a silly argument about a chair and get humus on Phoebe’s dress. Meanwhile Monica panics that Richard might have tried to call her and Rachel can’t decide on an outfit. The Good: It’s very rare that Friends does a whole episode like this without any change of scene. The whole show takes place in Monica and Rachel’s apartment and it is excellent. The writers do a great job keeping the story moving and making it interesting. Ross and Rachel’s relationship is one focus and Ross is great as his frustration, understandably, reaches boiling point. Monica is good as well as we see the trouble she is having adjusting to life without Richard. The story of her answering machine message is beautifully woven into the other plots. Finally Joey and Chandler provide most of the laughs as they have a silly argument that escalates. It is great stuff as it shows that good characters, well written can be funny without needing unrealistic story lines. The Bad: There are a couple of worrying signs for the future. Monica begins to sound a bit shrill and Phoebe’s new found arrogance begins to sneak through. Best Line: (C) “You know what’s weird? Donald Duck never wore pants. But whenever he’s getting out of the shower he always puts a towel around his waist. I mean, what is that about?” Best Friend: Ross
